The jurisdiction of the Electoral Court became the first point of disagreement between the ANC and DA in the parliamentary ad hoc committee set up to deal with the Public Protector's report into the conduct of chief electoral officer Pansy Tlakula, a Beeld report says.

The multi-party committee will consider Advocate Thuli Madonsela's report on the tender procedures followed for the IEC's new headquarters in Centurion. Madonsela found Tlakula's relationship with the entrepreneur and senior ANC MP Thaba Mufamadi contravened regulations. At yesterday's meeting of the committee, Luwellyn Landers (ANC) was chosen as chair. According to the report, he said the mandate of the committee, as set out in a motion of the National Assembly, was simply to decide whether the matter must be referred to the Electoral Court or not. But the DA says that court's jurisdiction is limited to election matters and not IEC management issues. Full Beeld report
