Ghana’s parliamentary spokesperson Kate Addo has confirmed that plans for a new $200m debating chamber in Ghana have been shelved. This follows a wave of public anger since the proposal was put forward last month. BBC News reports that critics complained that the money would be better spent on public services, such as health and education, as well as electricity and water supplies. Proceedings in Parliament were last week interrupted by a protester shouting ‘drop that chamber’.
