Ntate Manoel Mabesa, who practised as an advocate for many years after allegedly submitting a false qualification in his admission application, has been denied bail after appearing in the Bloemfontein Regional Court, Volksblad reports. Magistrate Collin Nekosie said it would make a mockery of justice to grant Mabesa bail after he did not honour his previous bail conditions. Mabesa’s right was first challenged during a bail application in 2013. His trial was subsequently placed on the roll in 2015. Mabesa claimed he was ill on the trial date and tried to contact the magistrate and prosecutor for a postponement date, but did not succeed. He was only re-apprehended in May this year. Mabesa remains in custody until his next appearance in August.
