MDC Alliance deputy chairman Job Sikhala who has been charged with subversion has been remanded in custody until 24 July. The lawmaker was initially expected to appear at a Harare court on Monday, but was transferred to a court in Bikita, a district in the Masvingo province, about 347km from the capital. The charges relate to a speech he made at an MDC Alliance rally in Bikita last weekend. A TimesLIVE report notes that he allegedly said 'we are going to take the fight to the doorsteps of (President) Emmerson Mnangagwa' and 'we are going to overthrow him before 2023'. Sikhala’s arrest follows that of the party’s youth assembly secretary general, Gift Siziba, for alleged incitement to commit public violence. They face up to 20 years in prison if found guilty.
