The Namibia Institute of Pathology (NIP) wants its former CEO Augustinus Katiti to pay $1m for the parastatal’s financial woes under his tenure. This is revealed in documents the institute has filed at the Windhoek High Court in defence of a claim that Katiti instituted against it in May. Katiti is suing the NIP for $271 000 which he claims he was supposed to be paid as part of an agreement that he would not work for any competitors for two years after leaving the institute. The Namibian reports that the NIP says the contract clause was ‘invalid from the start and cannot be enforced’ since it had not been approved by the board of directors or Ministry of Health. The board suspended Katiti in June 2018 and terminated his contract two months later. The NIP is a state agency which handles blood testing and other pathology services. It operates 40 laboratories across the country.
